Tak officials successfully rescue victim trapped in vertical cave

Rescuers managed to reach Takwa Wanawet (47) by widening the entrance to the cave so they could go down and bring him up to the ground. He was later sent to Tha Song Yang Hospital for treatment.

The Thai man was located in the cave in Tha Song Yang district of Tak province on Sunday, five days after he went missing from his residence.

As the cave was up to 10 metres deep and the victim was exhausted, the officials had experienced difficulty in rescuing him.

The victim was unable to cling to the rope that was sent down to help him climb up, due to his “mental disorder”.

A psychologist was also called in to help communicate with the victim.
