Pol Sgt Maj Thossaporn Sesarn headed a unit at Bannang Sata police station in Nan that was assigned to protect teachers from attack by insurgents.
He was killed on November 21 when the unit was ambushed in a roadside bomb attack in Yala.
Pol Maj Gen Jamnong Ratanakul, deputy commander of Provincial Police Bureau 5, presided at Tuesday’s cremation at a temple in Ban Phupiang, Muang Nan.
Thossaporn has been posthumously promoted through seven ranks to police major general and awarded a nine-stage salary increase.
The government will also cover education costs for his only son, Thitikorn Sesarn, through to bachelor’s degree level.
