Police to withhold Chaiyapoom evidence until case is complete

Police plan to withhold crucial evidence in the extrajudicial killing of Chaiyapoom Pasae until the case is complete.

Chaiyapoom – who has been described by police as a drug suspect but is remembered by several others as a role-model teenager – was fatally shot at a military checkpoint in Chiang Mai’s Chiang Dao district on March 17.
Soldiers have claimed Chaiyapoom pulled out a knife and a hand grenade, prompting a soldier to open fire in self-defence.
The Development Quality of Life Lahu Association, is demanding that authorities release CCTV footage and financial documents relating to Chaiyapoom’s case.
However, Deputy Police Spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen said on Tuesday:
“We can’t disclose what will affect ongoing proceedings of the case.”
