Thousands of energy-efficient LED bulbs in orange and yellow hues now illuminate the ruins, enhancing their spectacular beauty. A recently released drone-captured bird’s-eye view showed the ancient capital covered in radiant hues against a backdrop of darkness.
The PEA said the lights, installed in collaboration with the Fine Arts Department, are energy-saving LED bulbs.
The aim behind the project is to not just add to Ayutthaya’s charm, but also drive tourism to the ancient city, which was inscribed as a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1991.
The PEA said it has incorporated technology to ensure there are no short circuits and the lighting system is programmed to safely turn on and off.
