Popular Bua Tong field in Mae Hong Song opens to tourists

Mae Hong Son Governor Chettha Mosikrat on Saturday opened the annual season for tourists to visit the northern province's spectacular yellow Bua Tong sunflower fields.

The governor presided over the ceremony to kick off the tourism season of the Bua Tong field on Doi Mae U Kho mountain in Tambon Mae U Kho of Khun Yuam district.

The ceremony was joined by the governor’s wife, who chairs the Mae Hong Son Red Cross, Khun Yam district chief Narongpat Naksup, and Thara Chomsamonlert, chief of Tambon Mae U Kho administrative organisation.

The ceremony was held at the Bua Tong Pavilion on the mountain top, which is surrounded by a bright yellow field of Mexican sunflowers, or Bua Tong flowers. Popular Bua Tong field in Mae Hong Song opens to tourists

There were also shows of northern traditional dances and an exhibition of Mae Hong Son’s OTOP (one tambon, one product) goods for tourists to shop.

The Bua Tong field occupies a vast 500 rai (80 hectares) of land at a height of 1,600 metres above the median sea level.

The field is located in Moo 6 village in Tambon Mae U Kho and it is located about 25 kilometres from Khun Yuam district office.
