Prayut was admitted to Phramongkutklao Hospital on Saturday after returning from a trip to Ayutthaya with a swollen right hand the night before. Doctors believed the inflammation may have been caused by pseudogout and had him admitted for observation.
The hospital’s director, Maj-General Thamrongrot Temudom, visited the premier on Monday morning to check his condition. Upon returning, he told waiting reporters that Prayut’s condition had improved.
Citing Prayut’s remarks, Thamrongrot also advised reporters to not wait around at the hospital as the prime minister will be discharged in the evening.
No general visitors were allowed as of press time.
Besides Thamrongrot, Prayut was also met by his close friend, Senator Chai Sarikalaya.
The prime minister’s wife, Naraporn Chan-o-cha, has been staying with him at the hospital.
