Passenger service charge at six Thai airports to be hiked by THB30

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 25, 2023

Airports of Thailand (AOT) will increase passenger service charges by 30 baht from April 1, 2024 to cope with increased costs following the installation of better technology at six of its airports.

From April next year, the charges for international departure passengers will increase from 700 to 730 baht per person, while for domestic departure passengers it will rise from 100 to 130 baht per person at six AOT airports — Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, Hat Yai, and Phuket.

AOT director Kerati Kijmanawat said on Friday that the proposed price adjustment had already been approved by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand and the Ministry of Transport.

He said the 30-baht hike was necessitated by increased costs following the installation of Common Use Passenger Processing Systems at six airports, which have significantly improved service quality, safety and convenience for airport passengers.

The three main systems are:

  • Common Use Terminal Equipment, which raises the services at the check-in counter to international standards.
  • Common Use Self Service, which allows passengers to self-check-in as well as advanced check-in 6 to 12 hours before departure, eliminating the need to queue up at check-in counters.
  • Common Use Bag Drop, which allows passengers to check-in and load their baggage.

The fees paid by the passengers will be used to improve and maintain airport facilities and equipment to ensure the safety and convenience of passengers under international aviation standards, said Kerati.

The charge is commonly referred to as airport tax collected by airlines, and is already included in the air ticket price.
