Siroj Duangrat, deputy managing director of AOT, said the incentives include discounts of no more than 75% on landing fees to airlines that introduce additional flights. This measure has been in place since September 7.
Additionally, he said, each airline will be granted a discount of 175 baht on landing and take-off fees per additional passenger. This must not exceed 1% of the additional boarding and landing fees.
These discounts will be applicable from November 1 to March 31.
The AOT had earlier offered deep discounts to airlines if they added new routes.
The new measures will be applicable at six AOT-run international airports, namely Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, Chiang Rai’s Mae Fah Luang, as well as Chiang Mai, Phuket and Hat Yai.
Siroj said the new incentives were being given under the AOT’s performance-based incentive scheme, which covers international scheduled flights, extra flights and chartered flights.
In a bid to promote tourism, the government is granting a free 30-day visa to tourists from China, Kazakhstan, India and Taiwan from now until the end of February.
