Facebook user Narong Junior posted a video clip on Friday of Surachate, deputy commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police, getting his head shaved at the monastery. This ceremony is part of the preparation process for becoming a monk.
The ordination next Saturday (November 25) will be the second time for Surachate to don saffron robes.
He had become a monk briefly at Wat Thai Bodhgaya in early 2020, soon after assuming the position of special adviser to the prime minister.
Surachate, 53, made national headlines on September 25 when commandoes from the Police Cyber Taskforce searched his home and five other houses he had bought for his subordinates.
The top cop, who has led several crackdown campaigns, has said that the so-called crackdown had been motivated by politics within the police force.
The incident took place just days before the election of the new police chief – a position that Surachate had been shortlisted for along with three others.
The title eventually went to Pol General Torsak Sukwimol.
