Weatherman forecasts a very wet weekend for most of Thailand

Scattered heavy to very heavy rain is expected in the North, Northeast, Central including Bangkok, the East and the South of Thailand on Saturday, the Thai Meteorological Department said.

The rainfall has been put down to the monsoon trough lying across the lower North, upper Central and Northeast areas as well as the weakening southwest monsoon prevailing across the Andaman Sea, the Central, East and South as well as the Gulf.

The department has also issued warnings of flash floods and run-offs, especially at the foothills near waterways and lowlands. Caution is advised when travelling.

Meanwhile, waves in the upper Andaman and upper Gulf can go as high as two metres and even higher during thunderstorms. Ships have been advised to proceed with caution and keep anchored during thunderstorms.

The areas to be affected are:

North

Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Phrae, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun.

Northeast

Loei, Nong Khai, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Mukdahan, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Roi Et, Maha Sarakham, Kalasin, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buri Ram, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani.

Central

Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi and Bangkok metropolitan area.

East

Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

South

Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Songkhla, Yala, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Trang and Satun.
