Srettha orders new panel to remove obstacles so funds can flow into EEC

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin wants a new panel to be set up to coordinate operations, so obstacles to investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) can be removed soon.

Chanin Rungtanakiat, deputy secretary-general of the prime minister, said on Sunday that Srettha had ordered the panel’s setting up while on an inspection trip to the EC on Saturday.

Chanin said Srettha wanted investors to spend on the EEC zone as soon as possible to spur Thailand’s economic growth. He added that the new committee will oversee the integration and coordination of all agencies in charge of developing basic infrastructure, including utilities, for investors.

Srettha wants the developments to be sped up so foreign investors will be convinced to come and open their factories in the EEC.

The new panel will also be tasked with summing up what needs to be done to do away with obstacles to investments in the EEC and must present it to the premier in 60 days before Srettha makes another inspection trip, Chanin added.

Among the many measures, Srettha wants the Port Authority of Thailand to speed up the expansion of the Laem Chabang deep seaport so foreign investors can be convinced that there are enough goods shipment facilities for them.

During his visit on Saturday, Srettha also witnessed a ceremony announcing cooperation between two private concessionaires and state agencies to provide enough water for consumption by factories in the EEC area. The two concessionaires are Vong Sayam Co Ltd and Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Plc.
