A party is scheduled to begin at 6.30pm.
The hotel and shopping mall are bound together in a twisted coil-like structure that forms an unsymmetrical three-dimensional figure 8.
Drawing on motifs and patterns found in traditional Thai architecture, the eye-catching facade is clad in extruded aluminium tiles, creating a shimmering, moire-like pattern on which lights and reflections play.
“We are excited to open the Park Hyatt Bangkok in this incredible city that is full of culture, history and a rich sense of place,” says general manager Michael Golden. “Our goal is to make our guests feel welcome and very much at home, with highly personalised service in a luxurious and sophisticated environment.”
The interior-design brief – to create a sophisticated private residence and sanctuary reflecting Thailand’s rich culture – was executed by New York-based Yabu Pushelberg, who also designed the chain’s flagship Park Hyatt New York hotel.
This is the award-winning design duo’s first hotel in Bangkok and they have created a calm and stylish environment unfolding through a series of unique and intimate spaces.
New York-based AvroKO designed the three uppermost floors of the hotel’s Penthouse Grill & Bar.
“We found that the perfect interior is when all the parts – the lighting, materials, space and textures – work as a whole and you get this sense of calmness, of sensuality,” says Glenn Pushelberg.
The architecture is designed by AL_A, a London-based studio founded by Amanda Levete, and Bangkok-based Pi Design, the consultant architect of record.
The hotel and adjacent mall are bound together by a continual looped form, merging plinth and tower. The twisted coil forms a three-dimensional figure 8, a lucky number in Chinese culture.
Similar to other Park Hyatt hotels, art is intrinsic to the experience. Hirotoshi Sawada of Japan created two of the Bangkok hotel’s most dramatic installations. “Pagoda Mirage” incorporates hundreds of small, conical copper swirls, suspended en masse to evoke the reflection of a pagoda on water.
Equally striking is “Naga” on Level 9, a series of batons suspended from the ceiling that resembles the mythical water dragon travelling between the pool and internal waterfall.
From levels 12 through 33, the Park Hyatt Bangkok has 222 luxurious guestrooms, including 32 premier suites, all with floor-to-ceiling windows presenting city views.
Starting at 48 square metres, the entry-level rooms rank among the largest in the city, while the majority of the deluxe rooms measure 68 to 177sqm. On Level 33, the Presidential Suite has 381sqm and includes an outdoor terrace, gym, spa room, steam room, whirlpool, plunge pool and kitchenette.
A variety of intimate, stylish drinking, dining and entertainment venues, most with outdoor spaces, present intriguing concepts and innovative and exciting culinary experiences.
Book a stay of a minimum of two nights and enjoy a 20-per-cent launch discount as well as 3,000 bonus points in the World of Hyatt loyalty programme. Bookings are being taken through July 31 for stays from May 12 to October 31.
