I have been reading The Nation, along with other local English-language news, since I arrived in Thailand eight years ago. I am saddened at the decision to stop printing the paper at the end of this week. As a journalist myself, I couldn’t feel worse about the state my profession is in right now.

I heard a whisper that, after a couple of decades Stephff’s iconic cartoons are to be cut from The Nation. Is the paper doing so badly that it must abandon one of the very few things which define it and give it character? The things which generate and nurture its reader base?

I have been a political cartoonist for a national newspaper for 20 years now. On Thursday evening I received a notice from Facebook that I had violated its rules by publishing on my Facebook page “Stephff Tribal Art” the cartoon below, thus it was suppressed and I was asked to comply with “Facebook rules”, or else.
