AIS Kicks Off Thailand’s Biggest E-Waste Drive for International E-Waste Day

Advanced Info Service (AIS), Thailand's leading digital infrastructure provider, has expanded its innovative "Aunjai Goes Nationwide: E-Waste Hunt" campaign, addressing the mounting challenge of electronic waste management in Thailand in the occasion of 14 October 2024 International E-Waste Day.

The "Aunjai Goes Nationwide: E-Waste Hunt" campaign is part of the "Thais Say No to E-Waste" initiative, originally launched in 2019. AIS, along with its partners, has introduced various campaigns, such as the Green Phaholyothin Challenge, a competition for offices along Phaholyothin Road to collect e-waste.

Each year, new initiatives are launched to drive e-waste awareness and action. During the COVID-19 period, AIS partnered with Thailand Post to collect e-waste directly from households. Now, in 2024, Aunjai, the beloved mascot, is back on the move, leading a powerful, nationwide e-waste collection mission.

These initiatives are driven by an urgent call to action, highlighted by alarming statistics from the United Nations. In 2023, global e-waste reached 61.3 million tonnes—enough to fill 1.5 million 40-tonne trucks lined up around the Earth. This figure is projected to surge by 32%, reaching 82 million tonnes by 2030.

Moreover, Thailand faces its own e-waste crisis, generating 439,500 tonnes annually, with less than 10% properly managed. Without proper disposal methods, Thailand risks facing an 'e-waste crisis' within the next 5-10 years.
