NACC declares anti-corruption as national agenda at international forum

NACC, Thailand recently reaffirmed its commitment to anti-corruption on the global stage.

Ms. Wanwara Silpawilawan, Director of the Bureau of International Affairs and Corruption Investigation, represented the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) at the 33rd session of the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna, Austria. Her declaration emphasized that combating corruption is a national priority for Thailand.

Ms. Wanwara highlighted that Thailand's dedication to anti-corruption is embedded in its national agenda. The NACC, as Thailand's primary anti-corruption agency, actively complies with the 2003 United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). This compliance involves extensive cooperation across various sectors: government, legislative, private sector, civil society, and international organizations and foreign Agencies, enhancing global cooperation in the fight against corruption.

The statement underscored the critical role of international collaboration in addressing crime and corruption. Mr. Vivat Chareoncham, Assistant Secretary-General of Region V of the NACC Board of Directors, and other NACC delegates participated in the discussions held on May 14, 2024. These discussions highlighted the necessity of cohesive global efforts to tackle corruption effectively.

In addition to the anti-corruption declaration, Director of the Bureau of International Affairs and Corruption Investigation also represented the Attorney General and the Office of the Attorney General at the conference. She addressed the implementation of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC). A significant focus was placed on government strategies to combat call center gangs, a prevalent issue in Thailand.
