Isaan province takes crown for most temples in Thailand

The northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima boasts over 2,000 temples, far more than anywhere else in the country

Nakhon Ratchasima in the Northeast has the highest number of registered Buddhist temples in Thailand, the National Office of Buddhism said on Wednesday.

The office said it has checked out provinces with the highest number of registered temples and learned that most are in the North and Northeast.

The top 10 provinces with the highest number of registered temples are:

  • Nakhon Ratchasima: 2,179
  • Ubon Ratchathani: 1,848
  • Roi Et: 1,647
  • Khon Kaen: 1,545
  • Udon Thani: 1,532
  • Chiang Mai: 1,459
  • Sakon Nakhon: 1,241
  • Buri Ram: 1,097
  • Chaiyaphum: 1,095
