More rains forecast for South while cool weather continues in upper Thailand

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Saturday that a strong high-pressure system covers upper Thailand, resulting in cool to cold weather with strong winds.

Temperatures are expected to fall 1-3 degrees Celsius in the North and the Northeast.

The strong northeast monsoon prevails over the Gulf and the South, bringing more rain and isolated heavy rain to the South. Waves in the Gulf are expected to rise 2-3 metres high and three metres high in thundershowers. All ships in the Gulf should proceed with caution while small boats should keep ashore, the department said.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

North: Cold weather; minimum temperature 10-15 degrees Celsius, maximum 26-30°C; temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 2-10°C.

Northeast: Cold weather with strong winds; minimum temperature 9-13°C, maximum 23-27°C; temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 4-8°C.

Central: Cool to cold weather with strong winds; minimum temperature 13-17°C, maximum 27-30°C.

East: Cool to cold weather with strong winds; minimum temperature 15-21°C, maximum 29-31°C; waves 2-3 metres high and three metres offshore.

South (east coast): Partly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rain; minimum temperature 18-24°C, maximum 28-30°C; waves 2-3 metres high and over three metres during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Partly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; minimum temperature 22-24°C, maximum 30-33°C; waves 1-2 metres high and two metres during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Cool weather with strong winds; minimum temperature 17-18°C, maximum 28-31°C.
