Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha today assigned five policy directions to his new Cabinet.

In a televised address, he said the Cabinet’s first priority was to remedy suffering caused by the Covid-19 fallout, especially among small and medium-sized enterprises.
It must also seek ways to solve the problems in a sustainable way, he added.
Third, the government must offer incentives to businesses to retain employees, and fourth, it must devise plans to help new graduates find employment.
Finally, ministers must carry out all these plans with total transparency and listen to opinions from all stakeholders, he said.
Prayut added he would conduct workshops with all sectors this and next month to gather their ideas on boosting their economic performance.
He also asked the finance minister to invite the country's experts to share ideas with the government on how to manage the economy during the ongoing virus crisis. Invitees should include members of previous governments, even those who might hold different political views from the current administration, he said.

Prayut also called for national unity.

“The days of us-versus-them are gone. Now there should be only Thais, all together,” he said.

His statement came as students across the country stepped up their protests against the government and also called for reform of the monarchy. Academics nationwide have voiced support for the students’ peaceful protests and their demands.
