The swamp, in Ban Lueam district, is a part of the 3,000-rai Lahan Luk Nok Reservoir that connects both Nakhon Ratchasima and Chaiyapoom and takes water from Chi River to be used for agriculture.
It generated incomes for the locals who were able to sell processed food such as fish jerky, chilli paste, shrimps and fish meat to tourists who came to visit the lotus swamp.
However, this tourist attraction has been sucked dry by the drought for two years and the Chi River barely has water left to share with Lahan Luk Nok Reservoir.
All the beauty of the swamp has now gone and no one comes to visit it any longer, say locals. Residents whose jobs were dependent on visits by tourists are asking the responsible organisation to help solve this problem.
