5 million meth pills seized in Chiang Rai
Police and rangers intercepted an attempt to smuggle 5 million methamphetamine pills from Myanmar into Chiang Rai early Wednesday but two suspected couriers fled.
A team of police from the Mae Fah Luang police station and rangers form the 31st Ranger Taskforce were patrolling a road in Moo 6 village in Tambon Mae Salong Nok in Mae Fah Luang district when they spotted a pickup truck at 3am.
The authorities flagged the pickup to stop but it sped off. The team gave chase and caught up with the vehicle in Moo 7 village of the same tambon.
The pickup stopped and two men fled into the nearby forest.
The authorities found 30 bags at the back of the pickup with estimated 5 million meth pills inside.
