It's about time! Thaneth finally ready for his comeback

Thaneth Warakulnukroh was 27 in 1985, the year he made huge waves as a pioneer in Thai electronic music with his debut album "Dan Civilise" ("Civilised Land").

Thaneth Warakulnukroh was 27 in 1985, the year he made huge waves as a pioneer in Thai electronic music with his debut album “Dan Civilise” (“Civilised Land”). It was a huge hit, not least with a highschool kid named Thanachai Ujjin.
Yes, that Thanachai Ujjin, who turned out to be in the notsodistant future Pod Moderndog, heading the groundbreaking alternativerock band Moderndog. Back in 1985 you could see him bouncing around Suan Kularb School singing Thanet’s tunes.
Fastforward three decades and we’ve got them both together on the same stage for “Thaneth Warakulnukroh: Pler”. After a 23year absence from the music scene, the old guy wants to get back in front of an audience (namely you) at the Thailand Culture Centre on October 23 and 24.
The name “Pler” in the title of the doubleconcert is that of his new album, released on Rock Opera Records. And, like a rock opera, the disc is being billed as a concept album, in that it features Thaneth’s hits from the four albums he put out through 1992. They were “Khon Khien Plen Banleng Chiwit” (“A Musician Composes the Lyrics of Life”), “Kod Pum” (“Press the Button”) and “Rock Katonmai” (“Rock Percussion”).
Thaneth’s guests at both shows will be top entertainers who used to be (and still are) big fans of his.
Pod will be there, singing “Dee Jai” (“I’m Glad”) from Thanet’s debut album, with a fresh romantic arrangement. “Pod told me that when he first heard this song he was still in high school,” Thaneth says. “He really loves this song, but he can sing any song from that album.
“When we were thinking of an arrangement of this song for the concert, we decided that Pod would be perfect to sing it. He can convey the meaning better than anyone else.”
Pod was totally up for it, but when he went into the studio to record a promotional track for the concert, he was pretty nervous. He was worried that he could no longer sing the tune with the same feeling he had as a schoolboy.
Thaneth was never concerned. “I think it’s great that we’ll be singing it together because Pod is definitely able to express the feelings and convey the idea that there are fans of that generation who miss me.”
He’s got that right, because Pod sounds superb on the record, very touching and exactly conveying the fans’ yearning for Thaneth to make music again. As the lyrics say in part, “I’m glad you’re back. I’m waiting for you. Miss you so much.”
Pod had tears in his eyes by the time he was finished recording the track, as can be seen in a video shot for the promotional tune.
“Please watch the music video of this song and tell me that’s how you feel too,” Thaneth says on his YouTube channel. Since Rock Opera Records uploaded the video with the official lyrics on August 28 it’s had nearly 23,000 views.
Besides Pod, a dozen stars will be singing Thaneth’s greatest hits. Among them will be pop stars Stamp Apiwat and Image Suthita doing “Pler” and rockers Big Ass, Toon from Bodyslam, Labanoon, Tul Witulkiat and Boy from Lomosonic.
