Dr Frank scoffs at my statement that “humans are not natural carnivores” and seeks to prove that we are by referring to our canine teeth. Is he serious? Our teeny, weeny little canines bear no resemblance whatsoever to the long, dagger-like fangs of a natural carnivore which are specifically designed for spearing and tearing flesh. In addition to this, true carnivores have powerful jaws and sharp claws for bringing down their prey.
I invite Dr Frank to take this little challenge to prove to me that he is a true carnivore. Go into a field and, using nothing but your bare hands and teeth, bring down a cow – even a goat – and eat it. If you succeed you win the argument.
Natural carnivores also have stomachs rich in hydrochloric acid – to digest tough muscle tissue – and short digestive tracts for fast elimination of putrefying flesh. Man has a long convoluted intestine and weaker digestive juices.
Bowel Cancer Australia nutritionist Teresa Mitchell-Paterson says the reason red-meat consumption is linked to bowel cancer is because it sits in the bowel for a long time causing inflammation that has the potential for cancer. So eating meat is killing us too. Would this occur if we were designed to eat it?
Dr Franks wants evidence for the “blinding flash of insight” that the animals we eat are intelligent. The fact of their intelligence is well-documented and requires no blinding insight. One doesn’t have to invent the wheel to be intelligent. But of more relevance than their level of intelligence is their ability to suffer like us.
As for plants, to date no research has shown that they feel pain, but if you think they might you should definitely go vegan. This is because meat-eater are responsible for the deaths, not only of the plants that they eat, but the death of all the plants ever eaten by all the animals they consume.
