It is a spot where King Rama V camped out on the night of April 21, 1890. To mark the royal visit, the king had his monogram engraved on a boulder. Thais considered the place sacred as witnessed by a shrine with burning incense in front of the boulder.
Shockingly, a wall sign at the entrance to the landmark read: “King Chulalongkorn initials craved [sic] on a stone inscription.”
What a shame that the authorities that oversee national landmarks can be so sloppy.
