Golden day in table tennis, bronze finish in Para Games

The 31-year-old Rungroj came back from a first-set deficit to beat fellow Thai Chalermpong Punpoo 9-11 11-4 11-7 11-8 in the SM6-7 men’s singles table tennis final.  
It was one of four gold medals won by Thai table tennis players yesterday.
“I knew it would be tough as Chalermpong was really training hard for the competition. He took a set from me which showed he is so much better now. I had to step up a gear after the set to win,” said the 2016 Paralympic Games bronze medallist.
“I’m happy to win for the eighth time and helped fellow players to win the men’s team event (last week) too. From now on I will have to keep working hard for several events including the Asian Para Games next year in Indonesia,” Rungroj said.
The other table tennis gold medals came from Wanchai Chaiwut in men’s singles SM4, Dararat Asayut in women’s singles SF1-3, and Yuttajak Glinbancheun in men’s singles SM3.
Thailand won five gold medals in the final day. The other one was by the women’s goalball team.
The Kingdom, with 68 golds, lost the overall champions’ crown to Indonesia, which won the lion’s shares of 126 gold medals, followed by host Malaysia with 90 golds.
