National goalkeeper Sinthaweechai Hathairattanakool hanged up his spurs right after the Thailand’s national team went down to Australia in their last World Cup Asian Qualifiers in Melbourne on Tuesday.

The announcement of the 35-year-old player, formerly known as Kosin Hathairattanaool, came a big surprise not only to his national teammates but also to the Thai soccer scene.  

“After 14 years, representing Thailand is the highlight of my football career. I hope everybody remembers me as a fighter who fights until the last minute,” the national goalie posted on his facebook.

‘’ Thank you for all supports from friends and all opportunities from instructors and coaches. Also thanks to fans and the football body who have always stood by my side and to my family.”

The Sakon Nakon-born was one of the best goalkeepers for Thailand in recent years. Throughout the game with Australia on Tuesday’s night, he produced several superb saves from a series of attempts from the Socceroos who settled with a 2-1 win in the end.

Throughout his career, Sinthaweechai helped Thailand win the King’s Cup titles in 200 Goalie Sinthaweechai calls it quit 7, 2016 and 2017 , and was  part of the SEA Games gold medal team in 2003 and 2005. He was named Thai Premier League Best Goalkeeper of the year in 2008 and was in the Suphanburi team when they won the FA Cup last year.
