Colours that contour

Leading hair salon, Moga Professional Alliance joins with Wella Professionals in introducing the new Wella Spring and Summer 2017 Contouring Collection, the newest form of styling that’s influenced by the current makeup trend.

Contouring is a handcrafted hair-colouring technique that changes the way colourists work to enhance a client’s facial features. Bespoke to each client, contouring uses placements of colour to create the deception of light and shade, defining and recontouring any face shape. There are two principles to colour contouring: dark colours are great to shorten and narrow the face shape and light colours help to add length and width.
Moga hair stylists helped by working on contouring with professional optical illusions in cut, texture, and movement through colour choice and colour placement and shade selection.
The brand offers six ultra-authentic looks for the season.
“Ultra Sleek” works on an overall lightened base featuring darker beige panels placed in creative patterns on the bias around the hat line. This enhances the sleek movement, narrowing down the shape throughout the mid-length, giving the length diversity, and enhancing the filtered layers of the cut. Straight styling adds to the premium look.
“Ultra Depth” look is a freehand cut with very long and textured layers combined with a see-through soft fringe just touching the eyebrows that contours the face to bring an enticing “premium innocence” alive. A cool panel of petrol colours over a slimming volcanic black are placed throughout the top of the head to create the illusion of soft movement and structure.
“Ultra Edge” highlights an Afro look with the colour placement of the satin corn on a very dark peat base creating the optical illusion of a deep side parting, no matter how the unruly brushed texture of the hair. The tapered hair cut throughout the sides and the nape area gives the entire look a graphic feel, which contrasts with the set-free texture of the top and supports elongating the face to an oval shape in correlation with the colour placement.
“Ultra Crush” shows a new trend of red. The darkest red forms a circular band following the hairline, illuminating the palest of skin. Strategic patterns of lighter sienna-red hues create a circular, reflective shine line where the head bevels. This corresponds nicely with the elongated shape of the cut, softens square facial features, creates an optical oval, and intensifies the shaggy texture and the squashed curls of the style.
“Ultra Grunge” has an intentionally imperfect look. The undercut in a deep pewter colour creates the optical effect of depth and narrows the lower part of the head, while adding texture and dimension to the cut. The contrasting platinum colour from the midshaft to the tips puts emphasis on the choppy, disconnected top of the cut and brings out the dimension of raw yet malleable styling.
“Ultra Bowl” has a dark shadowed line that contours a much-modernised rounded shape of the pageboy bob. Narrowing an oval face shape, focus is placed on the disconnected, rounded fringe.
