Nanthana's Campaign Is Over in Rio

Nanthana Komwong’s journey in her fifth Olympics came to an end after she went down to German Han Ying 0-4 games (2-11 4-11 4-11 3-11) in the women’s singles table tennis third round on Sunday.

The 36-year-old was the only player from the Thai table tennis team to advance to the third round in Rio de Janeiro which was also her best attempt in the Olympics. In round two due earlier on Sunday she upset Fu Yu of Portugal 4-3 games  (14-16, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10, 11-8).

Also in the second round, SEA Games champion Suthasinee Sawettabut went down to Li Jiao of the Netherlands 2-4 games  (10-12 8-11 11-9 7-11 11-8 5-11).

In the men’s singles second round, Padasak Tanviriyavechakul lost to Gionis Pagagiotis of Greece 0-4 games (7-11 2-11 5-11 6-11).

In tennis, Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana went down to third seeded Marcelo Melo and Bruno Soares of Brazil 0-6 6-7 (1-7).

In cycling, Asian Games gold medallist Jutatip Maneephan had to retire from  the 141km women’s road race due to exhaustion. She called it a day after passing 104 kms.

In shooting, both Tanyaporn Prucksakorn and Pim-on Klaisuban failed to book a spot in the final in the women’s 10m air pistol. Tanyaporn shot 378.1 points to finish 27th while Asian Games gold medallist Pim-on fired 373.6 points to take the 39th place of a total of 44 competitors.
