THE PERFECT place to enjoy a delicious dessert at any time of day or night, Thonglor’s favourite chocolate cafe Melt Me welcomes the rainy season with a new menu of super-smooth shaved ice and crispy toast topped with seasonal fruits that pair perfectly with its signature traditional chocolate, low-fat Gelato and colourful smoothies.
Housed in the Arena 10 complex, the cafe opened back in 2011 and offered Hokkaido chocolate and coffee. Now it is run by Kin Kab Tan, operator of Tan Tan Izakaya Buffet and Tokiya Japanese restaurant, and underwent major renovations last year.
Comfy and relaxing with floor-to-ceiling windows, this 60-seat cafe is simply furnished in modern Japanese style and offers customers a choice of air-conditioned or alfresco dining. Dedicated to sweet treats, the menu boasts a range of smoothies and home-made Japanese-style pastries ranging from cakes and pancakes to toast and crepes.
“We come up with new menus every three months but at Melt Me’s heart are 50 kinds of chocolate pralines as well as our original chocolate set in Hokkaido dark, matcha, milk tea and strawberry,” says Pitcha Prakaylerdluk, vice president of marketing for Kin Kab Tan.
“Our desserts are a little sweet but no overly so and the sweetness comes from the best ingredients like Belgian and French chocolate, French butter, Nishio match, Hokkaido milk and fresh strawberries sourced locally and imported from South Korea and the US.”
The Gelato is low fat but rich and contains co-enzymes Q10, L-carnitine and L-glutathione to boost beauty from inside. There are 18 from which to choose including Dark Chocolate, Rum & Raisin, Cookie & Cream, Cheesecake, Strawberry Yoghurt, Hazelnut, Fresh Milk, Passion Fruit and Forest Berries.
A new dish is the Volcano Toast (Bt229), a strawberry ice cream topped with fresh kiwi, melon, strawberry, dragon fruit, apple and orange in a refreshing strawberry sauce. To prepare the base, the chef gouges out the inner layer of the bread and bakes it about 15 to 20 minutes until crisp.
Made from dark chocolate, the yummy Choco Cup (Bt215) contains a scoop of Cookie & Cream gelato, chewy brownie slices and whipped cream, while the Kakigori Strawberry (Bt225), Japanese-style shaved ice, is made of Hokkaido milk and topped with crispy crackers and fresh strawberry slices in strawberry sauce.
Another must-try is Kakigori Yuzu (Bt195), Japanese-style shaved ice adorned with Yuzu orange, strawberry slices and served with aromatic Yuzu orange sauce.
The beverage list boasts Yuzu Soda (Bt119) Matcha and Chocoholic Frappes starting at Bt149.
Right now each Melt Me outlet is offering a different choice of the 10 special treats but from September they will be available in all seven branches in Bangkok and Pattaya.
