Nationalists do not speak for the nation

Re: “A law cherished by the rich and powerful”, Letters, March 3.

I couldn’t agree more with Keith Barlow when he says there is no evidence that the majority of Thai people approve of the barbaric prison sentences being handed down to those convicted of lese majeste. Not even His Majesty the King approves!
Dusit Thammaraks, like Vint Chavala, is an elitist snob who does not speak for the majority of Thais. That’s why their side never gets elected.
And while these hypocrites think we foreigners have nothing intelligent to say (unless we agree with them), they are happy go to our home countries of America, England, etc, for their education. Then, after working in our countries and making money, they come home to Thailand, masquerading as nationalists and spokesmen for the Thai people.
Isn’t the 29-year-old mother who’s serving a 28-year-prison term for lese majeste also a Thai? Doesn’t she deserve the same moral consideration as her rich and elitist compatriots, who care nothing about the suffering of their own people?
