An important thing for a US ambassador or any other US official to remember is this: Puerto Rico has 3.5 million people and an unpayable debt of US$72 billion.
Proportionately, that would be an unpayable debt of $1.44 trillion for a population of 70 million, multiplying each number by 20.
That is roughly the population of Thailand.
Is that the kind of capitalism that Southeast Asians can expect to see in their future?
