Guess who's coming to dinner

This presupposes that Thailand ever was a democracy. The few crumbs from the table that managed to usurp the old order tell the whole story. The gang of “good old boys” that used to jostle for a share of the spoils was replaced by a demagogue, as foretold by King Rama VII. Putting the genie back in the bottle would be difficult. It would require that the “one man, one vote” standard be abandoned. Many other countries have managed it, but there will be a spotlight on the current government’s attempt to do so and, if they dine with the Devil, they had best use a long spoon.
