Thai movies "Concrete Clouds" and "Chiang Khan Story" win at Kom Chad Luek awards

Lee Chatametikool's romantic drama “Pawang Rak” (“Concrete Clouds”) proved the most popular of 2014’s Thai movies at the 12th Kom Chad Luek Awards on Monday night, winning prizes for Best Picture, Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress. Yuthlert Sippapak’s quirky drama “Tukkae Rak Paeng Mak” (“Chiang Khan Story”), was hot on its tail, winning Best Film Screenplay and Best Actor.
“This has been a wonderful year for me,” a tearful Apinya “Saipan” Sakuljaroensuk, told the audience, clutching her third statuette for Best Supporting Actress in “Concrete Clouds”. “Winning these awards will definitely drive me forward in my career.”
Janesuda Parnto, who plays Sai in “Concrete Clouds”, was delighted to receive the Best Actress prize. “This is such a surprise. I have worked in the entertainment circle for years and this is the first time I’ve been recognised,” she said, thanking her mother and the production team for their constant support.
Actor Jirayu La-ongmanee of “Chiang Khan Love Story” expressed his thanks to director Yuthlert and the team said that he would endeavour to keep developing his skills.
The Best Supporting Actor award went to Nopachai “Peter” Jayanama of the romantic drama “Timeline: Jodmai Kwam Songjam” while Nawapol “Ter” Thamrongrattanarit took Best Director for his documentary “The Master”.
In television, the Channel 3 soap “Samee Tee Tra” won Best Director and Best TV Drama.
“This drama can’t be completed by me on my own. It required much help from my production team. Thank you,” said Ann Thongprasom, who produced the winning drama.
Best TV Screenplay went to Nainukul for “Rak Nee Jae Jad Hai”, Best TV Actress to Manasnan Panlertwongskul for “Vieng Roi Dao”, and Best TV Actor to Worawuthi Niyomsap for “Malee Rerng Rabum.”
Sinjai Plengpanich was delighted to receive the Best TV Supporting Actress for her role in “E-Sa-Rawee Chuangchoti” and profuse in her thanks to the judges.
“I never thought that I would receive this award,” said Kittisak Udomnak, who won Best TV Supporting Actor for “Praow”. “My thanks go to Thongchai Prasongsanti for giving me a chance to star and to Pacharapa ‘Aum’ Chaichua for helping me play talent scout A Supachai,” Kittisak said.
In music, Monomania winning Best New Artist and Best Album for “Another Side of Human”. Singto Numchok was named Best Male Artist, Bodyslam was awarded Best Duo and Group and Apiwat “Stamp” Eurthavornsuk picked up Best Song for “Sat Pralad”.
“Thank you to Panda Record for giving us a chance and to Phi Mod for taking care of our band. This award isn’t only for us but for all those who are involved with us,” said Monomania member Napat “Boom” Prueksachatthavorn.
Singto too thanked his producer and label for their help, noting that he had been nominated for the past three years but had failed to go home with the award.
“Our thanks go to the judges who gave us this Kom Chad Luek Award and the fans who have supported us for 13 years. This award encourages us to go on and do better,” said Athiwara Khongmalai, the front man of rock band Bodyslam.
Best Instrumental went to the Paradise Bangkok Molam International for their self-titled album and Best Recording to Sugar Analog’s “EP Moire”.
Bodyslam rocked the audience with “Dharmjati” and “Ruea Lek Khuan Oak Jak Fang”, then handed the stage back to the emcees to announce the winners of the popular vote.
Napat “Gun” Injaiuea was given a special prize for winning the Popular Singer award for the fourth consecutive year though the actual award went to Satida “Aim” Pinsinchai.
The same reward system was followed for Popular Actress winner Urassaya “Yaya” Sperbund, another four timer, with Ranee “Bella” Campen receiving the award.
The Popular Actor award went to Nadech Kugimiya, the Popular TV Drama to “Ya Luem Chan”, and the Popular Movie to “Timeline: Jodmai Kwam Songjam.”
The luk thung awards were handed out earlier in the day, with Yinglee Srichumphol earning the Popular Vote for the eponymous hit “Khor Jai Ther Laek Ber Tho”. Best New Luk Thung Male Artist went to Leethang Mikethongkham, Best New Luk Thung Female Artist to Baifern Mikethongkham, Best Luk Thung Female Artist to Amporn Waenpetch, Best Luk Thung Male Artist to Monkhaen Kaenkhoon, and the award for Best Songwriting to Chaiya Chaikaew for “Maledpan Prathetthai” sung by Noi Nopakao.
