Vietnam will host its first International Fashion Week in Ho Chi Minh City in December with the country’s leading designers and guests from around the world presenting their collections.
Vietnam International Fashion Week will meet international standards, the organisers – FIDe Fashion Weeks and the Multimedia Joint Stock Co – announced last weekend.
The Asian Couture Federation and Atelier Chardon Savard in Paris are among the event’s backers.
Le Thi Quynh Trang, founder of Multimedia JSC, which has made a significant contribution to the fashion landscape in Vietnam, successfully producing local versions of the TV shows “Project Runway” and “Next Top Model”, says she’s impressed with the creativity and talent in the country.
“I believe Vietnam has the capacity to contribute significantly to world fashion, given the tremendous design talent we have here,” she says. FIDe’s experience and expertise will ensure the Fashion Week is a great success, she adds.
Frank Cintamani, chairman of FIDe, says the week presents a “tremendous” opportunity to show Vietnam’s best designers alongside esteemed designers from across Asia and around the world.
“This unique event will help promote fast-growing changes and developments taking place here, and also expose an international audience to exceptional Vietnamese fashion designers,” he says.
“We are delighted to have this opportunity to develop and promote the country’s fashion industry and talent further. The combination of the very best Vietnamese talent alongside that from Asia and international will be a key milestone in Vietnam’s position on the world stage for fashion.”
Meanwhile the Asian Couture Federation has named its latest member – Vietnamese designer Nguyen Cong Tri. He becomes the federation’s second Vietnamese member after Le Thi Quynh Trang, who was appointed its governor in April.
“Vietnam has emerged as one of the most exciting and dynamic countries in Asia,” says Emily Hwang, the federation’s vice president. “It has a long tradition of creativity and artistry. We see international fashion week as a unique opportunity to promote Asian talent, both the best in Vietnam and our members, to an international audience.”
