Collina denies there is a need for goal-line technology

Uefa Referees Committee member Pierluigi Collina has denied the need for goal-line technology, saying the use of two additional assistant referees is enough to prevent bad decisions.

The man regularly hailed as the game’s best referee until his retirement six year’s ago, said: “I think the goal-line can be easily controlled by two additional assistant referees.
“We had big mistakes last year, not because the assistant referee didn’t help the referee. He gave the correct advice, but simply the referee thought he was right.”

Rooney ‘calm’ over arrest
Speaking on the eve of England’s latest round of Euro 2012 qualifiers, coach Fabio Capello said Wayne Rooney was “relaxed and calm” following news of the alleged betting scam which has led to the arrest of his father and another relative.
“I found him relaxed and calm. He told me there are no problems,” Capello told a press conference. Rooney’s father and eight other people, reportedly including the Manchester United star’s uncle Richie, were detained in a series of raids on Thursday by police and gambling authorities.
