Health officials in central Bangkok’s Huai Khwang district aim to test a total of 8,000 workers after Covid-19 was discovered at two construction sites in the district.

The tests are being administered by a mobile unit in Watthanatham Market on Watthanatham Road.

“The unit will provide testing by swab until May 28 to workers from 25 construction sites in Huai Khwang,” said district chief Anuchit Phiphitkul on Wednesday.

“The district has launched an active case finding campaign after a cluster of 16 infections was reported at a construction site run by Italian Thai Development on Phetchaburi Road,” he said.

The site has been ordered to shut down until Friday, while test results for over 1,000 workers are expected back this evening, he added.

Anuchit said officials are also monitoring a construction site run by Siamese Rama IX Ltd on Rama IX Soi 13 in Bang Kapi subdistrict after four infections were reported at food stalls near the workers’ camp.

The district office ordered the construction site to be closed from May 22-26 (today) to test about 500 workers, whose results are due back today. The workers have been ordered not to leave the camp.
