Wild elephants damage durian orchard in Chanthaburi

Around 10 wild elephants raided a durian orchard in Chanthaburi's Tha Mai district late on Wednesday and stayed until Thursday morning, causing around Bt200,000 of damage.

The orchard in Tambon Khao Kaew belongs to couple Thanom Lampheungwong, 65, and Piyarat Lampheungwong, 61.
Thanom said the elephants came down from Khao Kaew and damaged the area around their house before they entered the durian orchard.
He said the elephants returned to the mountain at 4am.
Thanom said 15 durian trees were toppled and 15 others had their branches torn down.
He said his durians would have been ready for harvest on April 10.
