Sitthichai Punthong, an engineer with the Harbour Department who is in charge of the project, said it had been delayed due to storms and big waves. The contract, awarded to KPC enterprise, also expired a few months ago due to the delay.
The engineer said the project of refilling 3.6 kilometres of the beach will resume in early April and should be completed within two months before the next monsoon begins.

The contractor has laid a 5km-long pipe from Laem Son On cape to the beach and it needs to lay another 1km-long pipe before work can begin. The company will then use a large sand-dredging boat to push the sand through the pipe on to the beach, Sitthichai added.
