Trang Governor Siripat Pattankul said on Thursday that he had ordered social development officials to pick up the family, which had been being cared for by another family in Tambon Thung Yao in Palian district, to place them under the care of the provincial administration.
The family includes both parents, the 13-year-old girl and a one-year-old baby, the governor said.
Their plight was publicised after the Tambon Thing Yao family provided them shelter after seeing them begging for food.
Siripat said the parents formerly worked at a rubber plantation for a local politician, whose name was withheld.
He also said he would investigate allegations that the politician's son had lured the girl to be raped by a drug dealer and would take legal action against everyone involved.
