Thanyalak Nimthong, 34, was arrested at a house in Sutkhothai’s Mueang district while Kanyanat Thaewchote, 34, was arrested at her house in Rayong’s Ban Chang district.
The CSD has investigated and found that the two Thai women and 26 other Thais were hired by a Taiwanese man to travel to China on a three-month contract to join the call-centre scam.
They impersonated bank officials and Department of Special Investigation officials to call Thai victims and deceive them into transferring money to certain bank accounts, claiming the victims were suspected of getting involved in serious crime or having credit card debts.
The CSD said the Thai members of the gang were paid Bt10,000 to Bt15,000 each in monthly salary plus three to five-per cent commission from the amount they swindled.
The CSD tracked down the two women after learning that they had returned to Thailand.
The two admitted that they worked for the gang, said authorities.
