Following a tip-off that a sedan carrying illegal workers would pass through Sa Kaew to Chon Buri, Sa Kaew Immigration Police chief Pol Colonel Benjapol Rodsawat led a team of police officers and district officials in a stake-out until they spotted a vehicle that fitted the given description. They chased the vehicle and intercepted it.
Officers arrested the driver, Apiyuth Yenkhan, 49, and rounded up the eight Cambodians, who reportedly confessed that they paid Bt2,000 each to a gang to smuggle them into Thailand so they could find jobs.
The Cambodians will also face legal action.
