North Pattaya Beach cleaned up after ‘squatter’ problem

Workers have been dispatched to clean a 100-metre-long section of North Pattaya Beach, which has been blighted by sanitary problems, allegedly due to homeless people squatting in the area.

Piles of garbage, human waste and drug-taking paraphernalia found in several large pipes on the beach, have been cleared from the area dubbed “Haad Plod Took” (beach for self-release).
Pattaya City's special affairs division head Khomkrit Polvichien said the area was within a Marine Department sand-filling project site which had been sealed off to the public. As the project was still not yet done, homeless people have taken over the workers’ huts and lived in them without proper sanitation, he said.
Khomkrit has ordered the huts to be torn down and said he would ask the project site management to hire security guards to monitor for the area.
He was confident the problem has been resolved and pointed out that council workers routinely clean its beaches every Wednesday.
