Bridges, water pipes, farmlands damaged by Nan floods

Temporary bridges and emergency metal sheets are being used as residents of Nan province suffer through the effects of torrential rain.

The region is trying to cope with flood damages caused by heavy downpours since Monday from the influence of tropical storm Talas.
Some 2,000 residents of three villages have been affected by a route closure due to the severely damaged bridge of Ban Nam Tuang in tambon Nam Pang of Mae Jarim district, said provincial governor Paisal Wimonrat on Friday. For now, officials have placed metal sheets on the bridge so villagers can walk or ride motorcycles across, he said.
Meanwhile, a “baring” temporary bridge has been installed in response to another flood-damaged bridge at Ban Nam Poon in the same tambon.
The downpour-triggered flood hit Chiang Klang, Pua, Tha Wang Pha, Bor Klua, Santisuk and Mae Jarim districts on Monday, resulting in vast damage to farmlands.
The Mae Jarim flood also destroyed two tap-water pipe systems. Fallen tree branches also damaged electricity and telephone signal wires, resulting in blackouts and disconnection at the three villages of Nam Pang's Ban Nam Tuang, and Nong Daeng's Ban Kiew Nam and Ban Sawang.
The provincial disaster prevention and mitigation chief, Narong Inso, led a team to join district and tambon officials as they inspect damages and provide aid.
