The Intellectual Property Department has registered the red-rimmed pha sinh or sarong, and Hom Mali rice harvested from volcano soil, as Buri Ram’s two geographical indication (GI) products, a senior provincial official said on Wednesday.

Sutthisak Prombut, chief commerce officer of the province, said the GI recognition for the red-rimmed pha sinh and the volcano-dirt rice would add more value to the two famed goods of Buri Ram.
The red-rimmed pha sinh is a traditional silk cloth that has patterns unique to Buri Ram and is popular among both local and foreign tourists, he added.
So far, six groups of women making pha sinh in the province have applied for use of the GI logo on their products, Sutthisak added.
He said Buri Ram has six dormant volcanoes and their soil has been used to grow good quality Hom Mali rice, which has a lot of minerals useful for health.
