Ransomware attack under control, say Thai authorities

The global cyberattack involving malicious software known as WannaCry has been limited in Thailand and under control, relevant authorities said Tuesday.

Takorn Tantasith, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), said the NBTC and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society have been able to control the situation.
He said state agencies and Internet service providers would meet later this week to further assess the situation.
WannaCry ransomware has infected some 300,000 computers in more than 100 countries. The malware encrypts files in the infected computer and demands payment for the decryption code.
There have been no reports any Thai government computer system being infected by the malware, Digital Economy and Society Minister Pichet Durongkaveroj said.
