Labour Protection and Welfare Department’s director general Sumet Mahosot warned that if any employer violated the rule, he or she could be sent to jail for up to six month, fined up to Bt100,000 or both.
Employees taking a day off on May Day have to be paid.
If employers cannot allow employees to have the holiday because of the nature of their work, they have to compensate them with a lieu day or pay commensurate with their normal pay.
