Police call attention to mental problems of drug addicts

The growing problem of drug addicts developing mental disorders needs to be addressed, police said yesterday after a man was accused of killing two people for no apparent reason last week.

“This problem needs attention from all concerned,” Pol Colonel Chawis Srichan, deputy chief of Udon Thani Police, said yesterday.
Of the more than 5,000 methamphetamine users arrested during his two years of service in Beung Kan, many had used violence against their family and parents.
Sathaporn Seechiangsa, 20, stabbed two persons to death and wounded two others in Nong Bua Lamphu and Udon |Thani.
Dr Smit Prasannakarn, chief of Udon Thani’s public health office, said people who had been abusing drugs for six months to three years were at risk of becoming mentally sick.
These people needed treatment, he said.
