‘Blood clot killed jail riot instigator’

THE Corrections Department claims Asvira Doloh, an inmate accused of being an instigator of the deadly Pattani Central Prison riot last week, died from a pulmonary embolism on Wednesday after being transferred to a Songkhla prison.

In a statement issued yesterday, the department cited an autopsy result that found fatty material from bone marrow in Asvira’s broken right leg had clogged in a blood vessel in his lungs, resulting in his death.
The department also cited Songkhla prison’s physical examination of Asvira following his transfer that found he had sustained bruises all over his body from the riot – but it was deemed he did not require treatment at a hospital.
He was admitted to the prison’s infirmary and placed under observation by a nurse, the department said. He was found dead at about 1pm on Wednesday.
Prison officials told Asvira’s parents about the autopsy result. They reportedly have no doubts about the cause of his death but collected the body for an Islamic ceremony.
Asvira was among some 300 inmates shifted to four Songkhla jails to reduce tension after the July 15 riot, which led to the death of three inmates, injuries to 10 others and extensive property damage, including two buildings being gutted by fire.
Asvira and another inmate, Waeusaman Waesamoh, were named as the two instigators of the lengthy riot that involved some 200 prisoners |and started because of dissatisfaction over strict rules and upcoming prison transfers.
