Spaniard pleads innocent in killing

SPANIARD Artur Segarra Princep, 37, pleaded not guilty yesterday to the murder of compatriot David Bernat, 40, at a hearing at Ratchadapisek Criminal Court in Bangkok.

Princep faces charges of premeditated murder, destroying a corpse to conceal a death, illegal detention and |theft.
While the defence has only one witness set to testify, the public prosecutor announced a roster of 95 witnesses along with documents that will require 25 court sessions to be heard.
The court said the defence would have a chance to review the evidence and scheduled a session for examination of evidence at 1.30pm on July 25. Princep appeared cheerful yesterday as he was escorted from the Bangkok Remand Prison to court.
The Spanish Consulate-General was also present in court.
Princep denied all charges and said he did not know Bernat, but admitted to staying in the condominium where the murder allegedly took place.
The case filed on May 3 said the discovery of body parts in the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok and nearby areas in January led to the victim being identified as Bernat.
Princep allegedly detained Bernat, murdered him and disposed of his body parts in the river.
Princep was later arrested in a border area near Trat’s Klong Hat district.
