Jail possible for illegal use of rockets, fireworks

THE National Council for Peace and Order has introduced tough new penalties targeting people who illegally use ‘wheel’ fireworks, bung fai rockets, floating lanterns and similar objects.

In an order issued by the NCPO chief, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, anyone lighting ‘wheel’ fireworks and releasing bung fai rockets or lighting floating lanterns and similar objects into the air without permission faces up to three years in jail and/or a fine of up to Bt60,000.
Order No 27/2559 was published in the Royal Gazette yesterday.
The aforementioned activities are banned without permission being granted by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration or a district office director or chief.
The order aims to prevent the dangers from such activities, which have led to many deaths over the years.
Provincial officials must issue public announcements covering measures aimed at preventing the abuse of such activities, when and where they can be carried out, plus acceptable types of fireworks and related measures for public safety and order.
