Reform plans must be ready by May

PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has given a deadline to his six reform steering committees to submit their reform plans by May.

Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam said the PM wanted them to update him on their progress every month.
So far, up to 300 bills have been proposed, about 30 of them developed specially for steering reforms. And these have been divided into four main groups, Wissanu said.
The first group was bills to address poverty and inequality issues.
The second involved international relations.
The third would address specific anti-corruption moves, while the fourth would involve national strategies.
However, Wissanu said no national-strategy bill had been submitted yet.
The 30 bills were expected to be enacted by the end of this year, so that the National Legal Assembly (NLA) could have time to debate and endorse organic laws necessary for the expected election, Wissanu said.
Some critical bills have already been forwarded to the NLA. These include the state procurement bill, state budget bill, state financial discipline bill, and the wildlife conservation bill.
